The time has finally come for us to reveal the next set of Masters of Myth™ Hades vs Susanoo! We have spent the last year developing these two new decks to bring new playstyles to Masters of Myth™.
Hades was highly requested and was a deck I wanted to make. We revealed last year that he would be included in our next set. The artwork for Hades is done by ceSar; who also created the art for Zeus, our card frames, our box art, and our card backs. He was just as I was when we reached out to him about working on Hades. The work speaks for itself, producing another amazing set of art.
Designing Hades was challenging. We wanted to avoid making Hades into just a necromancer since that wasn’t how he was represented in myths. Hades would not stand for trespassers or people attempting to leave his realm. Those who wanted to raise the dead would either have to make a deal with Hades or attempt to sneak out with what they wanted. Neither option ended up working. Instead, Hades is designed around Pneuma, a weak but inexpensive guard minion. These are meant to represent the spirits that Hades rules over. Several other cards interact with Pneuma by either; summoning Pneuma from your discard or increasing the power of friendly Pneuma on the field.
Hades’ goal is to outlast his opponents through patient, tactical choices. Since all will serve him in the end. We will dive deeper into the mechanics of Hades at a later date.
On the other side of the coin is Susanoo, the violent storm god. We had been staying quiet about this one for a while and we are very excited to reveal him now. The artwork was done by Catopatata, who was able to meld a traditional Japanese art style with a modern twist to produce some amazing work.
The challenge with making Susanoo was balancing his offense with his survivability. We wanted to emphasize playing at a fast tempo while avoiding making it into a one-dimensional deck. To accomplish this, several of Susanoo’s power buffs are only active on your turn. Allowing him to be capable of great bursts of attack but leaving himself vulnerable afterward. We also wanted one of the major threats in the deck to be Susanoo himself. We have had gods have the ability to attack in the past but none that hit as consistently as Susanoo. One of the cards that aids him in achieving this is the 10-Fold Blade. At the start of your turn, it can either give Susanoo a power boost or if you’ve already got power, allow Susanoo to make an additional attack on your turn.
Masters of Myth™ Hades vs Susanoo Deck Pack will include; a 40 Hades deck, 40 Card Susanoo deck, 2 god cards, 2 rules cards, 2 reminder cards, and 4 devotion tracker cards. Keep your eyes open for pre-orders and public play tests in your area.
Until next time.
