How To Play Quetzalcoatl
Quetzalcoatl thrives on sacrifice and disruption. The key isn't avoiding losses, it's making sure every sacrifice, every removal, and every mistake costs your opponent more than it costs you.
Feed the Sacrifice Engine
Sacrifice doesn't mean losing.
Gather The Bones lets you sacrifice a minion to retrieve a card from your discard pile. With Sacrificial Lamb, you can turn that sacrifice into Devotion while bringing another lamb back from the discard pile to fuel your next sacrifice. Else you can pull another sacrifice outlet from discard that may have been removed earlier in the game.
Triggering multiple sacrifices in a turn can generate huge amounts of value when used with Opening Day at the Temple.
Make Them Waste Their Devotion
Don't just stop your opponent. Make them pay for trying.
Whipping Wind can return minions, rituals, and relics to their owner's hand. That means you can wait until your opponent commits Devotion to a feat, then remove the target before their effect resolves.
For example, Ra has a Sundial out and activates its feat to destroy your Opening Day at the Temple. You can use Whipping Wind in response to the feat being activated. Your opponent is denied destroying your ritual but also wasted Devotion on a Feat that did nothing. I know, pretty evil.
Turn Their Removal Against Them
Wind Jewel allows spells in your hand to be summoned as though they had Fleet. When an opponent targets one of your minions with a destruction effect, use Take My Strength to sacrifice that minion yourself.
Their removal loses its target, while you transfer the sacrificed minion's power to another minion. Effectively wasting their removal and setting up your next turn with a more powerful minion.
Clear the Path
Quetzalcoatl's second God Feat deals 3 damage to an enemy god or minion for 3 Devotion. Early in the game, that makes it an excellent way to remove Guard minions and clear the way for your other minions to attack.
If you're ahead on Devotion, don't be afraid to use it as direct damage. 3 damage at the right moment could push your opponent into the Deathstate or leave them without enough Devotion to respond on their next turn.
